I am upset he got owned on the trade, not trading the pick

sabres with the first pick in the 6th rd, get a 6th rd pick 20 spots later next year

habs with a pick in the 6th rd, get a 5th rd

nucks with a pick in the 6th rd, get 2 picks in the 6th rd

he acted like a rookie gm, nothing more, nothing less
- homiedclown

True, it was a bad value trade

But if this is his “rookie mistake” and he learns his lesson,
It was only a 6th

At least he wasn’t throwing away real assets like GMTM

PS
Bar Bill in East Aurora is worth the drive
Hand carved beef, not deli sliced
And awesome wings too
If u end up at Gabe’s Gate, their wings are great too
I bartend right down the street, so I’m there a lot
Good Burgers there also

a non-issue, imo…

I get the value chart, but it's the sixth round...he may end up using one of those to move up in another round...or take a flyer on a borderline nhl'er that may end up in rochester

Homie is correct that it looks bad with 2 other GMs getting a better return for their 6ths

But at the end of the day, i agree
No big deal

Nice write-up.

The whole "no Canadians" thing is not strange to me at all. They liked the players they took, and they like the 2 extra years of control they have over Euros and college kids.

The draft age should probably be raised, but of course that will never happen.

Now back to your regularly scheduled freak out time over a 6th round pick.

USA Today's Kevin Allen has a best-fit for 15 ufa's:

14. Defenseman Ian Cole: A veteran defenseman with Stanley Cup rings, Cole can help several teams. The Devils seem like an intriguing option. How about the Colorado Avalanche? Best fit: Buffalo Sabres. Need a veteran defenseman who can help develop a winning culture.

The team control thing certainly explained the heavy Euro draft. If they're all ready to play and come over, why wouldn't you?

As stated above, look what the extra year did for Oolofson.

I like the Mattias Samuelsson pick, was hoping they have a chance to get him.

it's really nothing new...both Regier and murray did it to stretch out the prospect pool and i'm sure most gm's feel the same way...

it just looks kind of strange not having any chl picks two years running

The first 3 picks are all solid. I'm not going to get worked up about the rest.

The Samuelsson pick is dynamite IMO, the rest are big question marks. But that's usually the case with Rounds 4-7.

Wilde clearly struck a bad chord with Botts, decommitting from two colleges (one being to Botts' alma mater). Wilde fell for a reason, people are worried about his potential attitude issues. Samuelsson was the exact opposite kind of person character wise.

all points taken and after hearing what both botts and sexton had to say, it's not surprising they did that

I wish there were a way to apply pressure to CMJ teams to change some of the rules.

The whole process should be streamlined to make rules the same for every prospect drafted.

And there should be exemptions for 1st rounders so they can jump from the draft to the A. If Grigorenko could have joined the Amerks instead of either junior or NHL, things could have been different.

Emphasis on "could," of course

Edit, maybe it was Portland at the time, but same idea

Pekar - energy third-line player
Kronholm - low Hockey IQ that could have been drafted in the 7th
( Should of took Kushashev but who cares about forward)
Kukkonen - was injured half the year so maybe we got a steal
William Worge Kreu - nothing wrong with a mystery player

Can't tell if you're memeing or not Gerbe, it was a concern listed by just about every major publication in regards to him. Our locker room needs more high character dudes.

[img]Incredibly smooth and mobile skater with good balance. Generates a lot of power with his crossovers and crossunders. Quick to retrieve pucks but seems unsure of what to do once he gets it. Does not seem to process the game at a very high level and his slow decision-making gave him trouble in situations that should have been fairly routine. Had a tendency to just throw pucks away without really knowing if there was a teammate there or not, seemingly stressed from forechecking pressure. Other than that he does a fairly good job in the defensive zone. Strong physically and really likes to finish checks and plaster guys to the boards. Had one really noticeable and heavy shoulder-to-shoulder hit behind his own net. Offensively Lindstrand-Cronholm was passive and never really tried to involve himself in that part of the game. A longshot-prospect right now but if decision-making improves he could have a future at a higher
